The Daily News

You know that it’s a bit of a slow news day when the announcement that Prince William graduates from university makes the headlines on the Yahoo! Front page. I’ve always found it amusing to see which news stories make it to the headlines. There are wars raging all over the planet, there are famines and floods happening all over the place but something like Prince William getting his degree takes precedence. I think part of the reason why we’re all so uninformed about what’s going on in the world around us locally, nationally, and internationally is because of the poor media coverage that truly important news stories get. The more sensational a story is the more media coverage it gets.

I really would like to know more about what’s going on but for me to dig up the necessary sources to be informed is much more work than its worth. Then again the media outlets have to stay on top of what’s likely to interest their viewers and bring them more advertising revenues because it’s the advertising revenues that keep the media outlets operating (especially the print media such as newspapers).

I do like the fact that more and more news is available in a digital format; it means that I can pick and choose what news I do get so that I’m not bombarded by the crap out there. Unfortunately in our increasingly digital world even the crap manages to make it through to the forefront. Thankfully the Michael Jackson trial is over because that was not only getting a bit dry it was a waste of time being forced to sift through the days news to get to the real stories.
