Hunger Strike - A stupid idea.

As I was driving in this morning the overly perky radio person reading the news announced that Sadam Hussein had announced that he was on a hunger strike. The report continued to give some useless details which were lost on me since I was already in my own little mind thinking away and here's some of the nice things that it produced:

You're going on a hunger strike... ok, enjoy just don't miss your trial. We'll leave your food there for you but if you insist that eating it is not something you're going to do then by all means. You're doing this of your own free will and not by virtue of torture.

Then another magical thought hit my silly little brain.

If you're going on a hunger strike and you happen to kill yourself won't that save a whole lot of people a lot of time and money. Hey maybe this is a good thing, then again if you wanted to off yourself you could have done this with a bullet, much faster.

Then I got to thinking about the stupidity of hunger strikes in general. If you think about it the only thing that you're really proving by partaking in something like this is that you, like every other human, gets hungry and your stomach hurts if you don't eat. Do it long enough and you'll start to be malnourished and eventually die. There is nothing intelligent about deciding that you're not going to eat... and the people who are forced to watch you do it might not really care to help you, whatever point you're trying to make is quite likely going to be lost on them since they're going to go home at the end of the day and enjoy a nice dinner.

I'll show them, I won't eat then they'll know the wrath of Sadam.
